Petrol Price in Pakistan Today: Current Rates, How We Got Here, and What Comes Next

If you ride a bike to work, drive a rickshaw, or simply watch your monthly budget, fuel prices probably decide your mood more than the weather does. In 2026, Pakistan's petrol price has been on a roller-coaster. This guide covers today's rates, the road that led here, what could happen next, and the fuel relief schemes, including Maryam Nawaz's petrol scheme for Punjab.

Petrol and Diesel Price in Pakistan Today (30 September 2026)

After a cut of Rs1.49 per litre, petrol is priced at Rs387.54 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) is at Rs402.24 per litre, effective 30 September. Geo News

The 29 September revision (petrol Rs389.03, diesel Rs404.97) came after a cut of Rs2.27 on petrol and Rs3.56 on diesel. So prices have been drifting down slightly over the last few days. The News Pakistan

Big Change: Daily Fuel Pricing

Earlier, prices changed every 15 days. That has changed. Ogra now publishes daily petroleum prices, and the Petroleum Minister said they are based on a seven-day average of international market prices. Prices notified on Fridays stay unchanged on Saturdays and Sundays. Geo NewsGeo News

What this means for you: changes are now smaller but more frequent, usually a few rupees at a time, instead of one big shock every two weeks.

How Did We Get Here? The 2026 Price Story

1. The war shock (February to April). The Middle East conflict began on 28 February, when Israel and the US attacked Iran, and Tehran shut the Strait of Hormuz, which carried around a fifth of global energy supplies before the war. Pakistan imports most of its fuel, so prices jumped fast. By April, some reports put petrol above Rs450 per litre, which is why relief schemes were announced (more on that below). Geo News

2. The June relief. In June, after a US-Iran peace agreement eased oil markets, Pakistan cut petrol from Rs373 to Rs299 per litre and diesel from Rs378 to Rs311. That was a big relief for households. Arab News

3. The rebound (July to September). The US-Iran truce collapsed on 8 July and Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz again. Pakistan's alternative route via the Red Sea was also disrupted by Houthi attacks. Prices climbed back to the Rs390 range, where they sit today. The Express TribuneThe Express Tribune

Will Petrol Get Cheaper or More Expensive? (Outlook)

Nobody can promise an exact number, but the direction depends on three things:

  • The Strait of Hormuz. The US Energy Information Administration expects Middle East oil production to stay below pre-war levels until early 2027, and Brent to average $87 a barrel in 2026. Brent has also swung between roughly $84 and $109 in recent weeks, so any real deal to reopen the strait would push prices down, and any new attack would push them up. Al Jazeera

  • Import costs. Longer shipping routes and higher insurance feed straight into the import-parity price OGRA uses. The Express Tribune

  • The rupee and the petroleum levy. Pakistan pays for oil in dollars, so a weaker rupee raises pump prices even if global oil is flat.

My reading of the scenarios:

  • Most likely: small daily ups and downs around the current level while talks drag on.

  • Prices fall: if a credible US-Iran deal reopens Hormuz. June showed a fall of Rs70+ is possible.

  • Prices rise: if attacks on shipping continue or Brent pushes toward $100.

This is analysis, not a guarantee. Oil markets react to headlines within hours.

Maryam Nawaz's Petrol Scheme (Punjab)

In April 2026, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a relief package for motorbike owners: the registration fee abolished, the transfer fee waived, a monthly subsidy of Rs2,000, and a fuel subsidy of Rs100 per litre on up to 20 litres of petrol per month. Dawn

Key points

  • Who: owners of motorbikes registered in Punjab. You need a vehicle registered in your name and a valid CNIC. OLX Blog

  • How much: Rs100 off per litre on up to 20 litres monthly, so up to Rs2,000 of savings a month.

  • How to apply: Call 1000, use the "Maryam Ko Batayen" mobile app, or visit the official web portal. ProPakistani

  • Farmers: a per-acre diesel subsidy for farmers has also been reported. MKbportal

Beware of fake sites. Some copycat "subsidy" websites are full of spam links. Apply only through helpline 1000, the official app, or the Punjab government portal.

The Federal Rs100 Fuel Relief Scheme

There is also a nationwide scheme. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs100 per litre petrol subsidy for motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws, and cars up to 800cc, with a token verified at the pump. It took effect in Islamabad on 14-15 September and nationwide on 16-17 September. Registration is via SMS to 9771. PakistanpetrolpricesPakistanpetrolprices

There have been teething problems. Petroleum dealers reportedly complained of a financial burden and refused sales under the scheme, and users have posted complaints about tokens showing as invalid at pumps. Check the latest status before relying on it. The News Pakistan

How to Save Fuel Right Now

  • Keep tyre pressure at the recommended level.

  • Combine errands into one trip.

  • Avoid hard acceleration and long idling.

  • Service your engine and air filter on schedule.

  • Compare carpooling, or an e-bike if you commute daily.

Final Word

Petrol at around Rs387 per litre is far above where it was at the start of the year but well below the spring peak. The next few weeks depend on the Strait of Hormuz. Until then, check OGRA's daily notification and use the relief schemes if you qualify.

Prices change daily. Always verify with OGRA or the Petroleum Division. This article is for information only.
